Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
So often, we want God to reveal his plan for us…and when he does, WE RUN in the other direction!
We know he talks because the Holy Spirit is a powerful spirit that dwells within us. We are not of this world. When we are pulled to do for others and derived from doing the things we are accustomed to doing, we get scared. God wants to pull us out of our comfort zone continually. We are not supposed to be conformed by the pattern of this world, remember? No matter what we do, we need to bring God Glory! We are more than a 9-5 pay check, a nice couch, and Sunday dinners after church. Isn’t that exciting!? Is it not exciting that the Lord will bring us to unimaginable places and will help us reach unexpected depths that go far beyond our natural limitations in order for his will to be done!?
When we get on our knees more, pray often, and meditate on The Word of Life he talks to us. The time we take out of our day to praise him, acknowledge him, thank him and talk to him is the same time he uses to talk back. That is how a relationship is formed. Imagine that! God, the King of Kings wants to have a relationship with ME! And YOU! The moment we humble ourselves and open our hearts, he pours into our souls. Have you ever tried pouring water into a closed bottle? The outside might get pretty wet but the bottle will remain empty. That happens when we have a hard, closed heart. No matter how much he blesses us, no matter how much it is apparent in our surroundings, if we maintain a hard, closed heart, we will never RECEIVE IT.
We know the lord is speaking to us when Christ like thoughts follow us in our daily lives and interrupt our regular activities. We know God is talking when he gives us visuals about things we prayed about. Or he may even provide thoughts or ideas on new areas in our lives that he wants us to focus on.
We may say. “Ok, now I know what you want me to do, but when do I act?” Start acting NOW! If God places a vision in your heart, even if the vision is for your future, he wants you to get started right away. Start praying, start preparing, and start planning! Grab a friend who is deeply rooted in Christ and pray together, and fast together. We need encouragement from our brothers and sisters. When we start doubting that God has called us to do great things, we need somebody to remind us we are fit for his calling.
Do we always answer? No. Answering comes with obedience and in our walk, obedience in some areas of our lives is harder than learning to be obedient in other areas. Obedience is a process. Our flesh and spirit have to live together, but they are often not in one accord.
26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
We need to strike a blow to our bodies as Paul did. Our flesh should be enslaved to the Holy Spirit in order for us to walk with Christ. Remember, Christ does not dwell in sin.
Ask God for courage in what he is calling you to do. Ask God for guidance. Ask God for a deep-rooted brother or sister to pray for you and with you about your insecurities, concerns and or fears. You are more than a conqueror through Christ, not by yourself, so do not try it by yourself.
It is hard to be obedient sometimes. Often, God calls us to do things that are against everything we have learned, everything our culture shows, and it is outside our comfort zone. It is hard to be obedient because we simply don’t feel like it sometimes. It is hard to be obedient because sometimes we are arrogant and think our plan is better than God’s or that our plan is faster than God’s.
What does the word say about obedience and love?
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
Wow! Walking in love and walking in obedience are one in the same. If we don’t listen and obey, we do not love. Imagine God only listened when he wanted to. Gulp. We often have so many responsibilities, preoccupations, due dates, and plans of our own that it feels like we don’t even have the time to do what God wants us to do. But, everything we do should be in reverence to what is eternal, not temporary. The world is temporary, heaven is forever. What we do now matters and God wants to prepare us for complete holiness for when we meet him in heaven.
School, work, extracurricular activities can all be distractions, even idols if we do not get God’s dosage day and night. He gives us all these things to give us a balance. However, he didn’t bless us with what we have for it to out-do the time we spend with him. Everything in this world is extra, unless it is used to glorify God.
We need to repent every day. I don’t believe I go a day without sinning. I might sin in my actions, my words, and or my thoughts. We need to be bold, we need to know our weak areas and have those in fellowship pray with us and help us. We need to keep a clear mind for Christ, a conscious mind, and a ready mind.
When God speaks: ACT! Praise him because he has worked all things together for your good, and there is no plan that will bring you more joy, more fulfillments, and more treasures (in heaven) than His.
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Psalm 1: 1-3
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
