“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”James 2:14-17 NIV
Oh how beautiful it is to have a sister that looks out for your needs. How wonderful a reminder of God’s providence to have a sister by your side who knows your physical and spiritual needs.
Erica Denise Ortiz is a person I can call a sister and a friend. She’s seen all the sides I have. She epitomizes a woman who walks by faith and deeds in love. She holds me accountable and supports me in the background, when no one is looking. When I smile wide but have a deep yearning, a deep need, a deep concern in my spirit she is there to pray with me and remind me of God’s word.
If you don’t have a sister or brother I pray that God will bless you with such a gift. Often times those in the background are not recognized. This is why I’m writing this post. Some of us are on the fore front and some of us are holding the person in front up straight, so she doesn’t fall, so that she stands tall, so that she is reminded of who she is in Christ.
I’m thankful for my friend and my sister Erica who has helped me stay grounded throughout this journey but especially this last month in New York.
You are a gift and you are seen.
